Dallas Plastic Surgery Institute
It is a great honor for me to be a Partner of the greatest practice in the world, the Dallas Plastic Surgery Institute. This group of Plastic Surgeons has been in Dallas for years. The group has developed a great reputation over the years as each partner has developed into specialists of all forms within plastic surgery. Breast Augmentation specialists with no incisions on the breast, craniofacial specialists, Facelift specialists, endoscopic facelifts, mission trips offering plastic surgery, and many, many other areas.
My particular specialty is in breast surgery. Over the years, I have become quite proficient at lifting the breast, tightening it, breast augmentation, breast reduction, various types of breast implants, and can even recreate the breast out of the abdomen, among other tissues. From my experience, I’ve come to understand the breast form very clearly and I am able to recreate it when it’s down, small, or even absent.
Dallas Plastic Surgery Institute is a group of individuals who have excelled and specialized within areas of Plastic Surgery. I’ve become involved in the directorship of Dallas Day Surgery Center which is our state of the art surgery center on the top floor of our building. It is by far the most advanced, state of the art cosmetic surgery center I’ve ever been a part of, naturally I’m glad to be involved in it’s leadership.
There are ten of us in this practice and we all office together at the Pyramid Building which is located across the street, to the North, of Dallas’ NorthPark Center. We chose this location just over a year ago to provide easy access to our patients from all over. I personally see a large population of patients from the Dallas – Fort Worth Metroplex, Plano-Allen-Frisco, HEB, Mesquite, Terrell, Monterrey Mexico, Ennis, Houston, College Station and many other surrounding areas.
Dallas Day Surgery Center is a fully accredited surgery center (accredited by AAAASF and Medicare Certified) conveniently located in the same office building on the top floor. Dallas Day Surgery Center was the focus of an article published in the Journal of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery for its exemplary record of safety and efficacy in an outpatient cosmetic surgery center. We are soon to accept many different types of insurance at the facility, which will maximize the services we can provide. Our skin care center is world class as well, our open house is coming up soon (next week on Thursday) and we have a 20% off deal on all of our products. If you are reading this, you’re invited to come get to know us a little better. I hope to see you there.

Pretty in Pink

Here’s one of my favorite photos taken at a recent Fashion show. There is little more intoxicating than seeing her light up a room with her confidence.
Next year at the October Northpark breast cancer walk she and I are going to make something BIG … keep your eyes posted!

Dallas Plastic Surgeon – Q & A
Ask Doctor Meade – Before and After Photos: Are they a good representation?
Great question. I thought about this when I was putting my photo album together so I included best and not so best results.
Don’t worry, there’s no deception to this. It’s like everything else, we’re just showing our best work. What you need to keep in mind is that is is helpful because you can see what your plastic surgeon has done before and see his comments about the photos. He may say, “look how beautiful this result is” and you think it looks like terrible. That’s an important evaluation to consider.
The other point to those photos along the same line is that you have to have something to strive for. If the best aren’t so hot, then that’s an answer as well.
Probably more importantly that all of that is that if you don’t look like any of those photos then ask if he has someone with your body frame. Although that doesn’t guarantee anything, it may help you feel a little more comfortable with where things are headed.

Dallas Cosmetic Surgery – Q & A
Ask Doctor Meade – More youthful breasts – how can I achieve them through Breast Implants?
This is an interesting question since you have lost some weight in the breast causing it to sag but it’s still a C. Unfortunately, no matter how many people blog about this subject we could all be talking about a different thing. Your board certified plastic surgeon must evaluate you and see what his thoughts are on the lift with an implant.
Many times a lift will achieve the more youthful breast that you seek. It will not give you any change in your upper pole fullness though. The breast lift repositions the nipple and areolar complex and tightens the breast envelope so that it’s once again somewhat more perky. I typically don’t do breast augmentations on women with C cup breasts. It may be necessary for upper pole fullness but if your breasts are already sagging with their own weight and an implant is put in there, the result is fairly predictable. Sutures can tighten the breast for a nice lift at one stage and then the implant can be placed once the wounds have healed and the tissues are strong enought to tolerate an implant.
This is a controversial topic because many will simply put the implant in under your breast tissue then perform a lift of the skin and areola of your breast. Again, the only way to know for sure will be to consult with your plastic surgeon. Hopefully these concepts help you ask him more direct questions on his logic for the choices that you’re considering.

Dallas Plastic Surgery – Q & A
Ask Doctor Meade – Should I wait until after Breastfeeding to have my breasts done?
It’s not even breast feeding that changes the breasts, what actually makes the difference is pregnancy. You could avoid breast feeding completely and you would still notice the breasts to enlarge and deflate after the child is delivered.
Perhaps waiting until you’re done with children is best for you, after all it seems to really be on your mind. That’s what I recommend to patients who are about to birth a baby.

Dallas Breast Implants – Q & A
Ask Doctor Meade – I’m an A Cup: How Big Can I Go?
It sounds reasonable but it really depends on what you’re wanting your look to be. I use high profile implants in patients that are your dimensions because they are the only way to get that size in when you’re so thin. Because you were pregnant, I’m hoping that your tissues stretched some and will accomodate these implants reasonably without having stretched beyond retraction (the taffy effect).
At first, these implants will look and feel tight. That’s because you put a big implant under a small breast. it’s clear to me that you are small, and that you know that you are small. It also seems clear that you know that these implants are nothing to scoff at.
Remember, what makes these look fake is when your breast tissue is tiny and the implants are huge. If you make a major exagerated change, then it will be a major exagerated augmentation (that’s not the case with you I’m just making clarification for other readers wanting to make major exagerated changes). We could blog about this all day but only the plastic surgeon that examines you will be able to communicate clearly because you have to get the measurements properly and feel the tissue elasticity and general breast tissue strength.
Also, who is to say what ‘fake’ means. The only way I communicate that to a patient is my looking at a bunch of pre and postop photos with the patient and give my opinion on if I think it looks fake or natural. That way you can see what I think looks natural or not.
I recently had someone tell me “I want them to look fake but natural”.
She may as well have said that because until you look at photos, it doesn’t matter what you or your plastic surgeon actually mean .. each of you could be imagining a totally different look. Rememer, a picture is worth around 7000 words (for silicone BA).
Best Wishes,
doctorMEade

Fight like a Girl

This is my patient modeling at a fashion show at Sax Willowbend. She’s a survivor and she spreads hope to others, she’s writing a book. Words can’t describe how proud I am of all of them. They’ve rebounded stronger than ever as moms, wives, daughters, best friends .. and now as supermodels! They were radiant.
Clearly, I have the greatest job in the world.

Dallas Plastic Surgery – Q & A
Ask Doctor Meade – How long should I take off work for a Tummy Tuck?
10 days should be fine.
As everything, there’s a spectum of possibilities in the recovery for this surgery. There are many varying techniques in performing a full abdominoplasty that your ABPS Board Certified Plastic Surgeon will be familiar with. If you discuss return to work at this deadline, I believe that it will in fact help your recovery since you are so motivated to get out of bed and mover around. A technique of internal suturing can help get your drains out sooner than usual (typically a week).
Even if you go back to work with your drains, depending on what you do at your work, it is achieveable. Your recovery will depend greatly on your anatomy, your stamina, tolerance and the actual operation performed. The plan you’ve made thus far is reasonable.

Dallas Plastic Surgeon – Q & A
Ask Doctor Meade – Thermage vs. Tummy Tuck
They’re really totally different options. Thermage can help if there’s a minimal amount of tightening expected, such as lower lids maybe. Sometimes the pre and postop photos on some of the new technologies out there are really difficult to reproduce. If you’ve seen Thermage results on an abdomen, I’d be pretty hesitant to expect much. It just has been really underpowered in those areas.
If your ABPS board certified plastic surgeon has told you that you are a candidate for a tummy tuck, then you should consider that and not thermage. There are different variations in tummy tuck (such as mini tucks or float abdominoplasties) for those that have very little extra skin. Those may be more worth your while to look into with more detail.
