There are a number of factors that contribute to weight gain. For some, poor diet and lack of exercise are the main factor while for others genetics play a large part in their weight gain. Brazilian Buttock Lift

In Dallas or Plano, it’s not to often that you think of patients request buttock augmentation or the infamous Brazilian butt lift. Well, I’m here to tell you that it is growing in popularity at exponential rates. I probably see one person a week that wants her buttocks to undergo reshaping or augmentation. Most will say “I don’t want to have a bigger butt”. Ironically, many of those that say they have enough really want reshaping and THAT is what this surgery is about. We’re not really making it larger, it is a matter of taking fat from unwanted areas and injecting it into healthy but deflated areas. It truly is an operation of sculpture, it is very artistic and one that I really enjoy. You’re a good candidate if you’re not too thin or too morbidly obese. If you’ve got some pockets in areas that you’d like removed (tummy, inner thighs, saddlebags, bra fat, back) then you’ve got some stuff that can be used to reshape your gluteal area into a more firm and perky look.

This characteristic of having so many partners that are world leaders with such a pedigree is something that I had to affiliate myself with. It is with great pride that I tell anyone who will listen that I am a partner of this practice. Enjoy the video.

Buttock Augmentation

Over the past several years, there has been an increased interest in buttock augmentation or gluteal reshaping. Many patients are looking for a more shapely buttock area, not necessarily just a larger buttock size. An effective technique to achieve this result involves performing a fat transfer, which involves harvesting fat from one area of the body and transferring (injecting) it to another area (such as the buttock).

This is accomplished by performing liposuction of the lower back, abdomen, love handles and occasionally the thighs, in order to harvest the fat while improving the contour in those areas simultaneously. This fat, once removed and strained, is then transferred to the buttock area using a syringe and metal cannula. This surgery is done typically under general anesthesia and takes approximately two to three hours. The goal is to reshape the entire gluteal, lower back and abdominal area while at the same time creating a fuller, more aesthetically appealing buttock area.

Most patients will take about one week off of work during the recovery from a buttock augmentation using fat transfer. One of the most important aspects of recovery is to avoid sitting for approximately two weeks. This is important so as to avoid any pressure on the newly transferred fat cells in the buttock area, which could result in their death and shrinkage. Patients can sleep on their stomachs or on their sides during this time period. They can sit only with the assistance or pillows placed under their thighs so there is minimal to no pressure on their buttock area. Most of the fat cells will survive (~80% to quote recent studies) and provide for a long lasting result.

Ideal candidates for buttock augmentation using their own fat are patients who are slightly overweight and therefore have enought fat to be transferred to the desired area (buttock). Patients who are very thin are not good candidates for a fat transfer and may consider silicone buttock implants. However, these implants can shift, develop hard scar tissue and occasionally become infected.

Hope this helps answer some of the questions you may have about buttock (gluteal) augmentation.

Feel free to contact the office for more information regarding buttock augmentation.

Best wishes,

Combination procedures in plastic surgery

Often times, patients will request more than one procedure to be performed during the same surgery. Whether this includes a facial procedure with a breast augmentation, or a tummy tuck and several areas of liposuction, the combination of procedures is not as important as the patient’s overall health and safety.

Firstly, patients should be in good overall health as determined by their primary care physician or internist. This involves a complete history and physical examination with an EKG and additional blood work. Occasionally a patient may even need clearance from a cardiologist. The patient’s age is not as important as their level of health. If there are any health concerns, the patient can be referred to a specialist for further investigation prior to surgery. Remember, cosmetic surgery is elective, so there is no rush to undergo these procedures until you have the proper medical clearance.

Secondly, once your good health has been established, the total length of the surgery must be closely considered. For example, a breast augmentation, which takes about one hour, can safely be combined with a tummy tuck, which takes about two hours. That makes for a total of about three hours, which is reasonable for outpatient plastic surgery. In fact, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) has determined six hours to be a guideline or limit of surgery duration for outpatient plastic surgery. If the combined procedures last longer than six hours, it is recommended the patient stay overnight at a hospital or after-care facility to be observed. If a combination surgery is scheduled to be longer than six hours, the surgeon needs to consider staging the procedures and performing them at separate times to ensure patient safety. The longer a surgery is, the higher the risk of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) or blood clots developing in the lower extremities becomes.

Each patient has their own unique anatomy and their own individual needs. I will be happy to discuss the most realistic and safest approach to your surgery if you are considering a combination of procedures.

Best wishes,

Dallas Plastic Surgery Institute

It is a great honor for me to be a Partner of the greatest practice in the world, the Dallas Plastic Surgery Institute. This group of Plastic Surgeons has been in Dallas for years. The group has developed a great reputation over the years as each partner has developed into specialists of all forms within plastic surgery. Breast Augmentation specialists with no incisions on the breast, craniofacial specialists, Facelift specialists, endoscopic facelifts, mission trips offering plastic surgery, and many, many other areas.
My particular specialty is in breast surgery. Over the years, I have become quite proficient at lifting the breast, tightening it, breast augmentation, breast reduction, various types of breast implants, and can even recreate the breast out of the abdomen, among other tissues. From my experience, I’ve come to understand the breast form very clearly and I am able to recreate it when it’s down, small, or even absent.
Dallas Plastic Surgery Institute is a group of individuals who have excelled and specialized within areas of Plastic Surgery. I’ve become involved in the directorship of Dallas Day Surgery Center which is our state of the art surgery center on the top floor of our building. It is by far the most advanced, state of the art cosmetic surgery center I’ve ever been a part of, naturally I’m glad to be involved in it’s leadership.
There are ten of us in this practice and we all office together at the Pyramid Building which is located across the street, to the North, of Dallas’ NorthPark Center. We chose this location just over a year ago to provide easy access to our patients from all over. I personally see a large population of patients from the Dallas – Fort Worth Metroplex, Plano-Allen-Frisco, HEB, Mesquite, Terrell, Monterrey Mexico, Ennis, Houston, College Station and many other surrounding areas.
Dallas Day Surgery Center is a fully accredited surgery center (accredited by AAAASF and Medicare Certified) conveniently located in the same office building on the top floor. Dallas Day Surgery Center was the focus of an article published in the Journal of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery for its exemplary record of safety and efficacy in an outpatient cosmetic surgery center. We are soon to accept many different types of insurance at the facility, which will maximize the services we can provide. Our skin care center is world class as well, our open house is coming up soon (next week on Thursday) and we have a 20% off deal on all of our products. If you are reading this, you’re invited to come get to know us a little better. I hope to see you there.

“Can breast implants rupture?

In Dallas, anything can happen after a breast augmentation. All breast implants are covered by warranty from the company for factory flaws if one were to be detected.
There are two major U.S. companies (Allergan also known as Inamed and fomerly known as McGhan and the second company is Mentor). They both guarantee their product against rupture.
Let me start this entry by stating that these implants are NOT easy to rupture. In fact, you couldn’t rupture one with your hands if you tried (unless you punctured it with something sharp). Moral of the story .. don’t puncture your breast implants.
Many answer this title question with a fairly generic answer: “Yes they can rupture – it doesn’t matter which breast implant company you use (Mentor or Inamed). ”
I kind of like to see numbers and facts to base my decisions on. I’m not sure these are facts because the implant companies are reporting these studies and they have a lot to gain from selling a whole bunch of these. What I am sure of is that this is the best information that we’ve got to date. (Sept 25, 2009).
These are the reported incidences of re-operation, rupture and contracture (when the implants look hardened and sometimes hurt because of dense scar formation).
*Note the differences in years of duration of the studies…

For saline implants:
Allergan at 5 years had a 25.9% Re-operation rate, 11.4% contracture and 6.8% rupture rates.
Mentor at 7 years was 25.3% Re-operation, 10.7% contracture and 16.4% rupture rates.

For Silicone implants
Allergan at 6 years had a 28% re-operation rate, 14.7% contracture and 5.5% rutpure rates.
Mentor had at 3 years a 15.4% re-operation rate, 8.1% contracture, and 0.5% rupture

You can make many conclusions from this but I wouldn’t suggest making your decision on this information alone. Keep it in mind, and refer to it if it comforts you. Once you’ve decided which type of implant to use, you can then look it up on my list and see where you land. I still would only use it as an information reference. Chances are, your implants aren’t going to rupture.
