breast reconstruction

Here’s a photo of a nipple sparing mastectomy reconstruction that I did not long ago. Her result was spectacular on the table and it’s spectacular now. There’s still some minor work to be done but this can be achieved as long as the work is done properly FROM THE BEGINNING. I see many patients who come to me for a correction of previous work but this photo is not a fair one for them to anticipate. The patient did extremely well, the wounds are very young in this photo but now are completely healed. She’s healed and looks great. Good for her, and thank God!

Breast Cancer

Dr. Ricardo Meade, has been essential in the accreditation for two major hospitals in Dallas and Plano for the breast reconstruction section of the NAPBC Accreditation Committee. One at Baylor University Medical Center and at the Medical Center of Plano. We are one of the first teams in North Texas to offer several new approaches to breast conservation and reconstruction. To find out more about these options, please visit the website, www.doctormeade.com or contact or Dallas office at 214-823-1691 to schedule your consultation.

Breast cancer (malignant breast neoplasm) is cancer originating from breast tissue, most commonly from the inner lining of milk ducts or the lobules that supply the ducts with milk. Cancer originating from ducts are known as ductal carcinomas; those originating from lubules are known as lobular carcinomas. Simply being a woman is the main risk factor for developing breast cancer. Breast cancer can affect men, but this disease is about 100 times more common among women than men.

White women are slightly more likely to develop breast cancer than are African-American women, but African Americans are more likely to die of this cancer because they are often diagnosed at an advanced stage when breast cancer is harder to treat and cure.

Other risk factors for breast cancer include aging, presence of genetic markers such as the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes, personal and family history of breast cancer, previous breast biopsies, previous breast irradiation, diethylstilbestrol therapy, oral contraceptive use, not having children, hormone replacement therapy, drinking alcohol, and obesity. Secondhand smoke may also be a risk factor. Currently, research does not show a link between breast cancer risk and environmental pollutants such as the pesticide DDE (chemically related to DDT).
Doing your monthly breast self exam is a great way to be familiar with your breast. And also having a yearly mammogram screening is the best way to screen for cancer. Breast cancer diagnosis and treatment are best accomplished by a team of experts working together.

This is the first prize ribbon winning tent at the 3 day walk

How does a 60 mile walk not completely wear out the soles of these ladies’ shoes? Here’s a ribbon for the first prize tent in it’s mardi gras design. You can’t see it here but there is a rather large nipple towering over the center of the breast shaped pink tent that I think caught everyone’s eye. An impressive victory for Michelle’s team. Good work ladies. If anybody needs information on this event please call the office, it’s a must do.

Pretty in Pink

Fashion show headshot

Here’s one of my favorite photos taken at a recent Fashion show. There is little more intoxicating than seeing her light up a room with her confidence.
Next year at the October Northpark breast cancer walk she and I are going to make something BIG … keep your eyes posted!

Fight like a Girl

100_6127

This is my patient modeling at a fashion show at Sax Willowbend. She’s a survivor and she spreads hope to others, she’s writing a book. Words can’t describe how proud I am of all of them. They’ve rebounded stronger than ever as moms, wives, daughters, best friends .. and now as supermodels! They were radiant.
Clearly, I have the greatest job in the world.
