Browlift Dallas - Forehead Lift Plano TX

Enhancing Your Appearance with a Brow Lift

The brow lift procedure may be right for you if you feel that your expression lines or other age related wrinkles in the region of the brow are excessive or unsightly or if your brows are resting in too low a position laterally.

The brow lift can:

  • Remove or reduce the small horizontal line or wrinkles on the forehead, or the vertical ‘frown lines’ located on the upper bridge of the nose, between the eyes
  • Lift a sinking brow that is drooping over the upper eyelid
  • Lift the eyebrows back to a position on the brow that opens the eyelids and makes the eyes seem more alert
Procedures that are typically performed in conjunction with brow lift surgery include:
  • Eyelid rejuvenation, to restore aged eyes
  • A complete face lift to reverse the effects of age and sun damage in the areas between the eyes and the chin

Is it Right for Me?

The decision to undergo brow lift surgery is one that you should carefully consider. As with any cosmetic surgical procedure, be sure that your motivations are centered around fulfilling and enhancing your own sense of innate beauty and self-image.

Brow lift surgery may be right for those who:

  • Are physically healthy
  • Do not smoke
  • Have realistic expectations of your brow lift surgery

What to Expect During Your Consultation

In order to create the best possible results from the brow lift, it is important that I consult with you to discuss your desires and expectations, as well as how the brow lift will impact your health, lifestyle and general well-being.

It is a good idea to prepare by considering the following before your consultation:

  • General medical history, including any previous surgeries or life-threatening illness
  • A detailed account of current prescription medications, supplements (vitamins or others) that you take
  • Any use of tobacco or other drugs
  • What are your motivations for surgery? What are your expectations?

At the consultation, I will also discuss several things with you including:

  • A thorough evaluation of your current health
  • I’ll examine the your pre-operative brow area and photograph your brow
  • Based on the information gathered, I’ll discuss your surgical options and recommend a course of treatment
  • Disclose the risk of common complications associated with brow lift surgery and the use of anesthesia
  • Cover what to do the day of surgery
  • Cover post-operative care and recovery

Preparing for surgery

In the weeks before surgery, I’ll probably request:

  • Further laboratory testing or medical evaluations
  • Adjusting current prescriptions
  • That you avoid the consumption of alcohol, drugs and abstain from smoking for a certain period surrounding surgery

Finally, we will go over the options you may have regarding the geographic location of your surgery. Typically, the brow lift procedures that I perform must be done in an accredited surgical center, outpatient ambulatory surgical center or a hospital. If we’re doing an endoscopic lift (using a little camera and tiny incisions hidden in the scalp) then it must be done at Dallas Day Surgery Center of Texas. This is the surgery center you may have seen on Park and Central Expressway in Dallas. If it’s an open procedure I could do it at essentially any hospital, but our surgery center is truly specialized in cosmetic surgery.

How is the Brow Lift Surgery Performed?

I typically perform both the endoscopic, temporal lift and the coronal brow lift procedures under general anesthesia.

The Incisions

The brow lift is a popular surgery because there are minimal incisions involved and the actual surgery can be performed using an endoscope, or a surgical video device inserted under the skin to reposition or alter brow tissues from beneath the skin in a way that is less invasive and traumatizing to brow tissues. You must be a candidate for this surgery to be optimized. If you have a really strong ‘blink’ or if you can see that your brow musculature is very strong then this may not be the operation for you.

A dramatic correction of lifting a drooping brow can be made through the use of the endoscope or very small incisions in the temple or in the hairline. In addition, very small incisions can be made in the natural folds of the upper eyelids to correct what is commonly referred to as a ‘furrowed brow’.

A more dramatic technique can be performed, called the coronal brow lift, which involves an incision hidden far behind the hairline. Excess skin and fat is removed, thus lifting and stretching smooth the skin of the forehead. Because of the nature of this technique, recovery time is an additional few days longer than the endoscopic method.

Important Facts About the Safety and Risks of Brow Lift Surgery

As with any cosmetic enhancement surgery, you should first consider your motivations for surgery to be sure that you’re choosing surgery for yourself and not to fulfill someone else’s’ desires or expectations of you or your body. It is a very personal matter and any decision for surgery should come after careful consideration of all the facts and emotions involved.

Ultimately, the decision to undergo the brow lift procedure is yours alone. After careful consideration of both the risks and benefits of surgery, you’ll have to weigh the risks against the potential benefits to make an informed decision that you can live with. Your health care professional will go over all potential risks of surgery and will make themselves available to answer any and all of your questions.

Here is a listing of some of the risks associated with brow lift surgery:

  • Adverse scarring
  • Excessive bleeding (hematoma)
  • Infection
  • Complications associated with scar healing, including pain associated with surgery
  • Higher hairline
  • Skin loosening or wrinkles persist
  • Potential risks of anesthesia use
  • Blood clots
  • Facial nerve damage, or paralysis which can be temporary or permanent
  • Numbness
  • Asymmetry of facial features
  • Potential necessity for revision surgery
  • Discoloration of skin tone
  • Sutures break through the skin

After any surgery, it is important to closely monitor how you feel, especially directly after surgery. Varying degrees of pain are certainly to be expected, however, if you experience any kind of chest tightness or shortness of breath, pains deep in your chest or an irregular heart beat you should go to the emergency room immediately and give me a call. To avoid complications, it is of paramount importance that you strictly follow your post-surgical instructions and be cautious!

My Recovery

Recovery from brow lift surgery is relatively short, but it is important to be patient as your results begin to unfold over time.

Here are some important questions to ask before surgery:

  • Where will I recover directly after surgery?
  • Will I be prescribed any post-surgery medications? (typically you’ll have a steroid pack and some pain medication)
  • How often do my bandages need to be changed and when will they be removed permanently? (they are usually very minimalistic, I don’t like bulky unnecessary bandages)
  • When will the stitches be removed or when will they dissolve? (most scalp sutures dissolve, staples need to be removed at 2 weeks)
  • How soon can I resume exercise after surgery? (6 weeks for intense exercising)
  • How soon will I need to return for a follow-up visit? (one week)

The Results Will Be Long-Lasting

Initial swelling should be relatively small, however as time goes by, your swelling will subside and reveal a smoother, tighter brow. As with any cosmetic surgery, it is of paramount importance that you follow your post-surgery instructions exactly to ensure the best long-term results. If you resume your regular work schedule before bruising dissipates, light cosmetics can be applied to conceal them.
