Thigh Lift (Thighplasty)
Following significant weight loss or as a result of changes in the body due to aging, the skin and tissue on the thighs can become loose and flabby. A thigh lift removes excess skin and fatty deposits to create a slimmer, more toned and youthful look again.
Dr. Ricardo A. Meade is a board certified plastic surgeon and thigh lift specialist serving the entire Dallas-Ft. Worth metro area, with offices in Dallas and Plano, Texas. In addition to thigh lifts, Dr. Meade offers a full range of body contouring procedures, and has helped thousands of men and women feel more confident about their appearance.
A thigh lift, or thighplasty, can reshape the upper legs for a trimmer, firmer shape that brings your lower body into better proportion along with removing excess skin. Although a thigh lift is often performed as a solo surgery, it can also be incorporated as part of a body lift after losing a large amount of weight, or included during a mommy makeover.
Please contact us online or call 214.823.1691 for more information on thigh lift surgery at our Dallas or Plano plastic surgery offices. We encourage you to view thigh lift photos in our real patient before and after photo gallery to get a better sense of what this procedure can achieve.
Scheduling a consultation with Dr. Meade will give you time to address your specific areas of concern. In your one-on-one consult, Dr. Meade will evaluate your current health and gather more information about your personal history in order to help you understand the procedure and what kind of results you can realistically expect. At this time, you will also receive a cost estimate for your thigh lift that includes detailed price information.
Preparing for Surgery
In the month or so leading up to your thigh lift, Dr. Meade may request further laboratory testing or medical examinations. It isn’t uncommon for him to advise you to adjust current prescriptions or supplements in order to create the safest possible circumstances for your upcoming procedure. You may need to avoid consuming alcohol or drugs and completely abstain from smoking cigarettes for a specific amount of time before and after your surgery.
The Thigh Lift Procedure
- Experiencing folds of loose skin and tissue after major weight loss is very common, and can only be improved through body contouring surgery such as a thigh lift. Sagging skin and fatty tissue in the inner and outer thighs may occur for other reasons as well, including as part of the natural aging process. For the best results after your thigh lift, it’s important to reach a stable, healthy goal weight before surgery.
- In most cases, the thigh lift will be performed under general anesthesia using an incision that runs along the groin and around to the back of the thigh. Some patients may require a longer incision that extends to the knee, but this is usually only necessary for those who have undergone very rapid and massive weight loss, such as following bariatric surgery. Alternatively, you may be a good candidate for the minimal incision medial thigh lift, which requires only a small incision in the groin. These options can be discussed in greater detail during your consultation.
Recovery & Results
Recovery from a thigh lift is different for each patient. Typically, our patients are comfortable enough during recovery that they don’t even finish a prescription of 40 pain pills. Most thigh lifts will require post-surgical drains, which can be removed after about a week. To avoid complications, strictly follow Dr. Meade’s post-surgical instructions.
You should plan to take at least 1 to 2 weeks to recover before returning to work and resuming limited physical activity. Be sure to wear your restrictive garment as prescribed, change bandages as needed and follow Dr. Meade’s instructions for appointments to remove surgical drains.
Although you will notice an immediate improvement through your upper legs and the absence of excess skin, your new look will continue becoming more visible over time. You can expect your thigh lift results to be long-lasting in combination with a healthy diet and exercise regimen.
