Breast Lift

Breast Lift (Mastopexy)

If you’re thinking about a breast lift, you’re certainly not alone. It’s common for women to experience changes in the shape, consistency and firmness of their breasts over time for a number of reasons, including breastfeeding and weight fluctuation.

Dr. Ricardo A. Meade is a board certified plastic surgeon and breast lift specialist serving the entire Dallas-Ft. Worth metro area, with offices in Dallas and Plano, Texas. In addition to breast lifts, Dr. Meade offers a full range of breast enhancement procedures, and has helped thousands of women feel more confident about their appearance.

Also known as a mastopexy, a breast lift removes excess fat and skin, tightening the tissues of the breast for a fuller, firmer appearance. A breast lift can give you the perkier breast profile you enjoyed when you were younger. The procedure also can address the tissue surrounding the nipple, or areola, which oftentimes becomes stretched due to the same effects.

Your Consultation

Dr. Meade will take the time to provide a thorough consultation in order to create the best possible results from your breast lift surgery. During your consult, you will discuss your desires and expectations, and Dr. Meade will explain how breast lift surgery will impact your health, lifestyle and general wellbeing. You will also be provided with a cost estimate for your breast lift with detailed price information.

Preparing for Surgery

In the weeks before surgery, Dr. Meade will likely request further laboratory testing or medical evaluations. He may advise you to adjust current prescriptions, and women over age 35 generally will be asked to get a pre-surgery mammogram to document any abnormalities in the breast tissue. You will also need to avoid the consumption of alcohol, drugs and abstain from smoking for a certain period before and after surgery.

The Breast Lift Procedure

  1. A mastopexy specifically addresses the sagging, drooping breasts most often associated with age or changes after pregnancy/childbirth. Although many women see very positive results after a breast lift, a lift alone will not dramatically alter the size of your breasts or make them fuller and rounder at the top of the breast. Oftentimes, Dr. Meade will suggest breast augmentation in conjunction with a lift for women who want a significant increase in breast size.

The techniques used for your procedure are based on factors such as your natural cup size and shape, the extent to which your breasts sag, the condition of the skin and breast tissue, and the condition of your nipples and areolas. You will discuss all of your options together with Dr. Meade during your consultation.

Recovery & Results

Recovery from a breast lift is a very individualized process, but there are some common effects you can expect. Typically, our patients are comfortable enough during recovery that they don’t even finish a prescription of 40 pain pills. To avoid complications, strictly follow Dr. Meade’s post-surgical instructions.

Bruising and swelling are normal but pretty uncommon. You should plan to take at least 3 to 5 days to rest with very little physical activity after your procedure. Limiting your fluid intake to only drinking for thirst and mild exercise such as easy walking is recommended. It’s important to avoid any heavy lifting above the head until about 6 weeks after surgery.

Although you will notice an immediate change, your breast tissue will continue to recover even further as swelling subsides and scars begin to fade, and you will find that your results will continue to improve over time. The results of your breast lift surgery will be long-lasting.
