Breast Revision

Feeling unhappy with the results of a previously performed breast augmentation can be frustrating, but breast revision can help. Whether your concern is over implants that look too large or too small, an asymmetrical appearance that’s worsened over time, or just feeling dissatisfied with your new look, breast revision surgery can improve your figure and help you meet your originally envisioned breast augmentation goals at last.

Dr. Ricardo A. Meade is a board certified plastic surgeon and breast implant revision specialist serving the entire Dallas-Ft. Worth metro area, with offices in Dallas and Plano, Texas. In addition to breast revision surgery, Dr. Meade offers a full range of brast enhancement procedures, and has helped thousands of women feel more confident about their appearance.

Improving the outcome of an earlier breast augmentation can be challenging from a technical standpoint and requires a particular skillset. Women may want to replace their breast implants with a smaller or larger size implant, or remove their implants entirely. Every revision surgery is unique and Dr. Meade will take the time to review your individual concerns.

We encourage you to view implant revision photos in our real patient before and after photo gallery to get a better sense of what this procedure can achieve.

Your Consultation

The first step in breast revision surgery is scheduling a consultation with Dr. Meade, which will give you time to discuss your hopes and goals from the procedure. Dr. Meade will explain all the options to you, and may talk with you about other procedures, such as a breast lift, that can help you achieve the best results. Detailed information about what to expect from surgery through recovery will also be covered during your consultation, and you’ll be provided with a cost estimate for your breast implant revision surgery with detailed price information.

Preparing for Surgery

Dr. Meade may request specific lab tests or medical evaluations as the time gets closer to your surgery, including a mammogram. You may also need to adjust dosages of current vitamins, supplements or prescriptions you’re currently taking, and will need to avoid the consumption of alcohol and drugs as well as abstain from smoking for a certain period before and after surgery.

The Breast Implant Revision Procedure

The goal of every breast implant revision is to help you look and feel your best, although it’s important to have realistic expectations about your results and hope for improvement rather than perfection. In many cases, Dr. Meade can use the same incisions as your earlier surgery to minimize scarring after surgery.

There are several issues that Dr. Meade can resolve with breast implant revision surgery:

  • Bottoming out: Implants that have shifted downward
  • Implant malposition: One or both implants have migrated off-center from the nipple
  • Synmastia/Symmastia: Implants are too close or even touching at the chest midline
  • Implant Wrinkling: Visible wrinkles or ripples in the implant surface, seen through the skin
  • Capsular contracture: The growth of excessive scar tissue around one or both implants

It's not uncommon for women to include breast implant revision as part of a mommy makeover or following major weight loss to update their look. During surgery, Dr. Meade will choose the specific surgical technique that will deliver the best results while resolving your specific concerns.

Recovery & Results

Recovery after breast revision surgery is described by many women as similar to their recovery following breast augmentation, but easier. Typically, our patients feel comfortable enough during recovery that they don’t even finish a prescription of 40 pain pills. To avoid complications, it’s important to strictly follow Dr. Meade’s post-surgical instructions.

Although recovery time is different for every woman, Dr. Meade recommends at least 4 days of rest with little physical activity, plus an additional 10 to 14 days of abstaining from strenuous physical exercise. Limiting your fluid intake and mild exercise such as easy walking is recommended. Finally, it’s important to avoid heavy lifting, especially above the head, for at least 4 to 6 weeks after surgery.

You should see an immediate improvement in the appearance of your breasts, and more so as swelling subsides and scars continue fading. Breast implant revision can help you finally achieve the beautiful breast augmentation results that you didn’t quite get to enjoy the first time around.
